Steilacoom Historical School District is proud to announce that Cherrydale Primary and Chloe Clark Elementary Schools earned Washington Achievement Awards for 2015; ranking them among the best-performing schools academically in Washington State. Cherrydale Primary is recognized for High Progress and Chloe Clark Elementary is recognized for Overall Excellence. Both schools serve students from preschool through 3rd grade.

Kathi Weight, superintendent of the Steilacoom Historical School District said, “We are extremely proud of our staff, the high quality instruction they provide, and their unwavering commitment to every student. The recognition of our student achievement over time is exciting.”

The awards use the State Board of Education Revised Achievement Index and are based on statewide assessment data for the three previous years. The Achievement Index measures school performance, emphasizing improvement and recognition. Schools cannot be listed as Priority or Focus and must have at least 95 percent participation on state tests to qualify for recognition. The Achievement Index is the only statewide school accountability system recognized by both the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. The index measures student proficiency in math, English language arts, science, student growth, and college and career readiness.

“The Achievement Awards recognize schools and educators making a difference in student outcomes. Award recipients are schools that have made measurable progress helping students prepare for college, career, and life,” said Isabel Muñoz-Colón, State Board of Education Chair. “The Achievement Awards are one way we can learn more about the successful strategies Washington schools are using to help our kids.”

Cherrydale Primary and Chloe Clark Elementary Schools will be honored, along with the state’s other award winning schools, during a ceremony on May 10 at Union Gap School in Union Gap, WA.
