Parks’ Task Force Community Work Party – Sunday October 9, 1 PM to 3 PM:
This Fall season is the time to plant our native plants purchased this past spring to improve the berm at Saltars Point Park. The plants have been well-attended by Town parks staff all summer and are eager to trade in their pots for a permanent home.
Our plan is to plant them on the berm at Saltars Point Park which previously was engulfed in blackberry vines before our volunteers removed them. Blackberry vines are very determined and have made a little comeback. The goal for Sunday afternoon is to remove all remaining blackberry roots.
The next step, specifics of which will be determined, will involve preparing the soil to be more invasive-resistant and more receptive for the native plants. The native plants will then be planted toward the end of Oct or in Nov.
Please bring any tools you would like to bring. Pick axes, shovels, cutters, and pitchforks will be handy. The Town will have extra gloves on hand (no pun intended).
The weather is predicted to be sunny on Sunday, 66 degrees, and the Seahawks aren’t playing!
Street Light LED Conversion Project:
The contractor continues to work converting street lights to LED heads/lights throughout Town. Excluding the arterials, most of the new conversions are being installed without the diffuser. Given comments from residents, the Town crew has begun removing the diffusers from selected lights in the Saltar’s Point neighborhood.
