Steilacoom Historical Museum was the first stop on a three-week-long sightseeing tour around WA this summer for a group of students from Okinawa. The 21-member group, with students ranging in age from 13-17, are part of the Cultural Homestay International program, coordinated through the Lakewood Baptist Temple.
The students are staying with host families from Steilacoom, Lakewood, University Place and DuPont. The program includes morning lessons about language, culture and customs; while the afternoons include sightseeing adventures such as trips to Seattle, Olympia, Mt. Rainier, and other popular PNW places. A ferry ride also is on their itinerary.
