Nisqually Tribe – Cold Water Training Exercise:
The Nisqually Indian Tribe Emergency Management Department, Leschi Heritage Foundation, and the Nisqually Canoe Family will be conducting Cold Water Training exercises on Monday at Sunnyside Beach. The purpose of the exercise is to train/prepare for the possibility of a capsized or damaged canoe at upcoming Paddle to Nisqually event.
Fireworks – Possession and/or Use:
In 2009, the Town Council adopted ordinance 1456 amending the Steilacoom Municipal Code to make the possession and/or use of fireworks illegal within the Town limits subject to fines up to $250 and $500 respectively. Due to State law, 2011 was the first year this ordinance was in effect and enforced. Please be aware of the provisions and inform any family members, guests, or others of this regulation prior to their coming to Steilacoom.
Farmers’ Market:
The Farmers’ Market runs every Wednesday from 3 PM to 7 PM in downtown Steilacoom.
Summer Concert Series:
The 2016 Summer Concert series’ schedule has been announced and is posted on the Town’s official website at townofsteilacoom.com. The concert series starts June 29th and runs through August 31.
Public Safety:
Training:
Officer Hamrick attended the Basic School Resource Officer course held by the National Association of School Resource Officers, Inc. in Yakima this week.
Safety Alerts:
Public Safety recently responded to reports of suspicious individuals in various areas in Town. While searching for the individual(s), officers noted several unsecured facilities, public, commercial, and residential. Please remember to secure your residences/buildings at all times.
Sunnyside Beach – With the warm weather upon us, many people are enjoying Sunnyside Beach. Please remember to secure your vehicles and not leave any valuable objects in plain sight.

Crew Emphasis:
The crew completed the annual cleaning of the boat ramp, secured sandbags and cones for the 4th of July, cleaned the Marietta Street storm swale, coordinated with Hunter Tree Service for the removal of trees on the Worthington Street trail, and maintaining/mowing rights-of-ways.
Lexington Street Project Bid Opening:
The Lexington Street project bids were opened Thursday. Staff is currently reviewing the bids and is planning on bringing an award recommendation to Council at their July 5th meeting.
Electrical:
Crew Emphasis:
The crew assisted with installing a new pump at Sunnyside Park lift station, performed 54 utility disconnections for nonpayment, replaced a street light on 7th Street, and coordinated with the contractor on the Sentinel Way project.
Water/Sewer:
Crew Emphasis:
The crew installed a new pump at the Sunnyside Beach lift station. This lift station pumps the sewage from the restrooms into the Town network. Due to the malfunction of the prior pump, the restrooms were not available for use early in the week. Additionally, the crew repaired a water service on Blaine Street, repaired an air compressor at the Dock lift station, and performed other maintenance throughout Town.

Staff continued repairing, charging, and adjusting sprinkler systems and drinking fountains, mowed parks and grounds, and supported the Farmers’ Market.
